John R. King, Jr. is a local Lakelander, born and raised here. He earned a B.S. Degree in Subtropical Horticulture, emphasis on landscape design with minors in art and biology from Florida Southern College in Lakeland in 1976. Over the past fifty years, he has become a noted landscape designer, green thumb artist, teacher, guest lecturer and now an author. John has spent countless hours for many years, presenting programs to various groups throughout Central Florida covering an area from Polk County over to Tampa and down to Venice. The key word that sums up his educational accomplishments:
VOLUNTEERISM!
Education not Regulation!
John has started a non profit organization:
greenthumbartist.org.inc (registered with the State of Florida)
to donate money from the profits of sales from the following
four books he has written:
1. Solving the Landscape Riddle Volume I
2. Solving the Landscape Riddle Volume II
3.Charlene’s Garden, A Children’s Guide to Gardening
4. My Experiences With Death Left Nothing to Fear (eight)
To garden clubs, schools. churches and other non-profit
organizations that sponsor children's gardening activities
and or scholarships.
